TROY SAYS:

5.5

"Big budget movie. Lots of special effects. Pretty good acting. Nice end titles. Unimportant story: a group of violent "good" guys fight to stop a bunch of violent bad guys from using a death ray to open a space-time portal to blow up the human race. Ugh. The movie has several nice sigh-gags, notably a hilarious "hulk slamming a self-styled god" moment. Explores a few decent themes such as the value of teamwork and humility over arrogant egocentricity. But mostly the movie just celebrates weapons and violence. Nice and informative director's commentary by the humble, self-effacing, and thoughtful Joss Whedon."

“Lots of eye candy. Nice music. Too much profanity. Silly story that hinges on violence. Like junk food, the movie is pointed at children, but isn't good for them. It's the moral, thematic, and literary equivalent of a McDonalds hamburger. Too many ingredients and not enough nutrition.”
