Years ago, a TV commercial for a new fragrance taught us this: "If you want to get someone's attention, whisper." Genie has taken this axiom to dizzying new heights in her CD "Wildflowers." Her soft, angelic voice is a delightfully delicate and innocent whisper, and the gently-played grand piano, occasional strings, guitar and backing vocals are wonderful accents to Genie's story-telling.
The title track "Wildflowers" is a touching reflection on childhood days when Genie would pick a bouquet of wildflowers and present them to her grandmother.
She sings that to other people, those wildflowers might have been just weeds, but they were beautiful to her grandmother.
With mind's eye one can easily see the bright-eyed little girl smiling widely as she held out the bouquet, and said 'Here, grandmother, I picked these just for you!' But we are gently directed back to today when Genie sings that "Time flies and little girls grow up, grandmothers grow old"...and...
"she and I will meet again where the wildflowers grow."
Genie's website says her CD's are "the most peaceful, comforting, relaxing song collections in the world." You'll get no argument from me.
"Wildflowers" is a well-produced, beautifully packaged CD of 12 songs with arrangements that add to the relaxing mood of Genie's special music.
Tongue in cheek, the "Wildflowers" CD has this liner note: "File under peaceful music." I think "peaceful" doesn't say enough.
But then again, if you want to get someone's attention, whisper.
