Here is wisdom: let him who has understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of man; and man's number is Six hundred threescore and six.
HOde hO sophia estin. Ho ekhOn noun psOsiphatO hon arithmon tou thOriou. Arithmos anthropou estin, kai ho arithmos autou hexakosioi hexOkonta hex.

And in the Vulgate:
Hic sapientia est. Qui habet intellectum, computet numerum bestiae. Numerus enim hominis est, et numerus ejus est sescenti sexaginta sex.

In Roman numerals 666 represents all the numbers from 1 to 500 in descending order, namely D (500) + C (100) + L (50) + X (10) + V (5) + I (1), or DCLXVI.
Robert Graves suggests in his study of pagan symbolism The White Goddess that this is an acronym for the Latin sentence Domitianus Caesar Legatos Xti Violenter Interfecit, or "The Emperor Domitian violently killed the envoys of Christ."

A term or word designating a witch's spell which has a long historical association with the connotation of the number six.
The Greek hex, and the Latin sex cognate with the Egyptian seven, "to embrace, to copulate."
Six almost universally represzented the number of sex, representing the union between the Triple Goddess (trinity) and her trident-bearing consort, which is why Christian authorities labeled six "the number of sin."
Pythagoreans, on the other hand, called six the perfect number, or The Mother.
One of its Egyptian forms seshemu, "sexual intercourse" shown in hieroglyphics by male and female genitals in conjunction.
This 'sesame' survived in the Sufi love-charm designed to open the "cave" of the Goddess: 'Open, Sesame.'

The "666" has existed in religions since ancient antiquity.
In ancient religions, Gods had a triplicate nature: one the creator, one the maintainer, and one the destroyer.
This is easily seen in the Goddess Parvati, Devi, and Kali, the three aspects of the same Goddess.
Likewise there is the Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, respectively representing creation, maintenance, and destruction.

A term or word designating a witch's spell which has a long historical association with the connotation of the number six.

The hexagonal hex signs include the six-pointed Tantric yanta of love.
The Pennsylvania Dutch borrowed the word Hex from their native German word for "witch", Hexe, which in turn is from the Old High German hagazussa or hagzissa ("hag").

A triple six, 666, was the magic number of Triple Aphrodite (or Ishtar) in the guise of the Fates.
The Book of Revelation called it "the number of the Beast" (Revelation 13:18).

666 is the product of 3 X 6 X 37.

O.E. siex, from P.Gmc. *sekhs (cf. O.S. seks, O.N., O.Fris. sex, M.Du. sesse, Du. zes, O.H.G. sehs, Ger. sechs, Goth. saihs), from PIE *seks (cf. Skt. sas, Avestan kshvash, Gk. hex, L. sex, O.C.S. sesti, Lith. sesi, O.Ir. se, Welsh chwech).

Sex and Six have the same Indo-European root, sweks, seks, which in later languages for 6 became Sas, Sex, Six, Hex.
The etymological meaning of the word "sex" relates to the division of living things into two sections for the purposes of reproduction (L. sexus).
This differentiates Man and the pagan anthropmorhphic 'gods' from YHWH, who is genderlesss.

How 666 looks in Greek:

X (=Chi) 600
Xi (shaped like a curled capital E) 60
s (Sigma) 6

Thus XES (approx.). According to ("Number in Scripture" by Dr E W Bullinger p. 49), we find that:

"The 1st and 3rd letters, it is said, represent the first and last letters of the title "Christos" and the middle letter represents the symbol of the serpent and is intimately connected with the ancient Egyptian Mysteries."

"The Grand Number of the Sun" contains the very sacred number 36 laid out in a 6x6 square with the numbers from 1 to 36 so arranged that they add up the same in all directions, with the total of the whole seal 666.
Though popular also in Eastern lands, the Greek and Roman, or Latin, inscriptions on these seals show also their popularity in the West.
Since the sun-god was considered as the ruler over the 36 constellations of the sky and the 36 rooms of the circle of the zodiac, it was inevitable that the summary number of the numbers from 1 to 36, the number 666 should have been assigned to the sun as the ruler over all the gods of heaven and earth.

To the ancients, the number 7 signified completeness or perfection, the number 6 could represent something less than completion, or a contrast to perfection.
Consider our term "hex," with its connotations of evil, magic and witchcraft.
Yet the word is merely the number 6.

The six numbers comprising the original Latin numerical system totals 666.
We all learned them in public school:
If you write the first 6 Roman numerals, in order from largest to smallest, you get 666:

DCLXVI = 666 = 1+5+10+50+100+500
"M" was added much later.

"VICARIVS FILII DEI," which means "Substitute for the Son of Yahweh" (A Vicar), which, also, has been used as a title for the catholic pope as early as the eighth century.
If you add the Roman Numeral values for the Roman Numerals in the title, "VICARIVS FILII DEI," you will arrive at a total calculation of 666.
VICIV = 5 + 1 + 100 + 1 + 5 = 112
ILII = 1 + 50 + 1 + 1 = 53
DI = 500 + 1 = 501
112 + 53 + 501 = 666

The ancient way of writing one of the words for 6 in Babylon, in Palestine, in Egypt, and in India was SS.
After the introduction of the short vowels, we find the word spelled variously as Sas, Ses, Sis, Sos, and Sus. (Sometimes the S becomes Sh).
Since the letter S itself represented the cobra advancing to attack, as well as its hiss, and since the number 6 was consecrated to the serpent, S became a symbol for 6 as in the Old Greek and we find SS, 6, written on the cobra's hood...

The use of SS as Masonic symbols is significant. We see the S-serpent on either side of the sun-gong, with the peacock, symbol of the sun and of the devil in the Orient, in front.
To those "in the know" these two serpents signified SS, 6.
We find the same two S-serpents on one of the three panels on the crown of Pope Adrian III.
Since the crowns were triplicate, to indicate the three realms of heaven, earth, and hell over which the pope claims jurisdiction, the SS-serpents must be on the two invisible panels also.
The three serpents on the crown of Jules II, crowned pope in 1509, must have had the significance of 666, just as they do on the multitude of other triple-serpent symbols

According to Antiquity Unveiled by JM Roberts, Esq.:

"'Ies,' the Phoenician name of the god Bacchus or the Sun personified; the etymological meaning of that title being, 'i' the one and 'es' the fire or light; or taken as one word 'ies' the one light.
This is none other than the light of St. John's gospel; and this name is to be found everywhere on Christian altars, both Protestant and Catholic, thus clearly showing that the Christian religion is but a modification of Oriental Sun Worship, attributed to Zoroaster.
The same letters IHS, which are in the Greek text, are read by Christians 'Jes,' and the Roman Christian priesthood added the terminus 'us'. . ."

In the New Testament, the letters of the Greek word euporia, from which the word "wealth" is translated, interestingly total 666. Out of all the 2,000 Greek nouns in the New Testament, there is only one other word that has this exact same numerical value, the word paradosis, translated "tradition" (Acts 19:25: Matt. 15:2).
The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents and he was involved in extensive trading of gold, silver, gems, ivory, cinnamon, spices, wine, oil, wheat, cattle, sheep, horses and chariots (see 1 Kings 10 and 2 Chronicles 9).
These are almost exactly the same as the things traded by the prostitute who rides the scarlet beast (see Revelation 18:11-13)
The first Apple Computer, the Apple I was sold for $666.66.

Ezra 2:13 -666 the number of the people of Adonikam who
returned to Jerusalem from Babylon

- 1 Kings 10:14 - '666 talents of gold'

- 2 Chron 9:13 - '666 talents of gold'
Numerologists consider six to be the first "perfect" number, as it is equal to the sum of its divisors other than itself (1 + 2 + 3 = 6).
Man was created on the sixth day.

The Beast is described in Revelation as having seven heads.
Curiously, the squares of the first seven prime numbers - 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 17, when added together, total 666!

The most famous Biblical quotation regarding the Number of the Beast is Revelation 13:18.
Revelation is the twenty-first book of the New Testament.
Oddly enough, one looking in the right places can find many examples of 13, 18, and 21 hidden in 666.
For example: 666 is equal to 18 multiplied by 37, and 3 multiplied by 7 is equal to 21.
Also, 1 divided by 37 is equal to .021021021... and -(1 * 8) + (3 * 7) = 13!9

Someone says: In gematria the number 666 was the "Solar" or "Yang" the "masculine" number that represented power and might.
SunTemples located in Charleston, West Virginia, with a circumference of 666 feet.

Sun Temples/ Henges erected by the Allegewi were either 212 feet in diameter, which is a circumference of 666 feet or 210 in diameter which is a circumference of 660 feet.
660 feet is a furlong, 8 furlongs are one mile.

It is said that:
Temples, churches and cathedrals all possess measurements which form careful ratios and are in fact microcosms of the macrocosm. In other words they are by design and proportion a scale of the solar system as well as of solar lunar time-cycles, marking the planets' passage through the twelve signs of the zodiac over specified periods of time.

a) Architectural proportions are the same throughout all civilisations.
b) These proportions are to be understood as the means of interpreting astronomy and astrology through various myths.
